Girl commits suicide due to conversion persecution : BJP urges for CBI enquiry

There is considerable outrage in the social media for the case of a student who has committed suicide due to increased persecution for conversion to Christianity.

The Tamil Nadu State Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) today also continued its second day agitation demanding for proper investigation of the girl's death case and the passage of the Anti Conversion action.

BJP President K.Annamalai, who is leading the protest, has made serious allegations against the police saying, "Very sad day to see Tamil Nadu police losing all its hard earned reputation by its irresponsible statements. When there is a clear video testimony by the girl of forced conversion, the local police is hell bent on changing the course of the case of Lavanya".

A 17-year-old student from Tamil Nadu is said to have taken her own life after she was forced to convert in her school hostel. The hashtag for Justice for Justice is trending on Twitter.

The girl's family alleges that a 12th-grade girl committed suicide due to increased harassment by her friends and hostel warden to convert to Christianity

Lavanya, a 17-year-old girl, was a 12th grade student and lived at St. Michael's Girls Home in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.

According to media reports, on January 9, Lavanya started vomiting and was hospitalized after complaining of abdominal pain. In the video filmed before she was taken to the hospital, Lavanya can be seen describing the ordeal she faces at St. Michael's Girls Home.

She is constantly abused by the hostel's warden, who was asking her to clean up all of the hostel's rooms, she said. She has accused of being forced to change her religion and take on Christianity.

Lavanya was admitted to the hospital after she was transferred to Tanjore Medical College Hospital, where she confessed to doctors that she had attempted suicide.

The student's parents filed a complaint on January 15, claiming that an innocent young woman had died on January 19 without effective treatment.
